No Sean Connery for Indiana Jones 4

Even though it was reported that the character of Henry Jones had been written into the script for Indiana Jones 4 - which is scheduled to begin shooting this month in New Haven, Connecticut - it appears that Sean Connery isn't interested in coming out of retirement to reprise his role as the father if Indiana Jones.

Per Variety;

After months of talks, thesp has decided not to come out of retirement to star opposite Harrison Ford in Steven Spielberg's "Indiana Jones 4," which begins shooting this month. Connery would have reprised his role as the father of the archeologist-adventurer. John Hurt, however, is joining the cast. Already starring are Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett and Ray Winstone.

"thesp" meaning thespian, or actor, is Variety's way of being cute with their news. They like to eliminate the word "The" for leading off sentences, and are fond of dropping nouns randomly and occasionally making words up entirely. I'm finding it increasingly annoying because it's not cute, it makes Variety look like it was written by a highschooler trying to impress his English teacher, succeeding only in butchering the language so badly that it barely makes any sense.

I'm no English major, but I'm also pretty sure you can't use a noun that way.

Of his decision, Connery said: "I thought long and hard about it and if anything could have pulled me out of retirement it would have been an Indiana Jones film. I love working with Steven and George, and it goes without saying that it is an honor to have Harrison as my son. But in the end, retirement is just too damned much fun."

Well, that's a bummer. Connery worked beautifully with Harrison Ford and the two are a delight to watch together in the movies, especially when they don't get along. Maybe it's just as well though, this addition to the franchise is probably one too many. It's due for a full-on jump, and this is a perfect opportunity for it.
