MTV Movie Awards rundown

I don't think MTV has any business presenting movie awards. Would rappers and other music artists accept and value awards from TechTV G4? And I'd also ask if either music artists or gamers would accept, respect, and value awards from the Academy, but that answer would be an enthusiastic yes since those awards actually mean something. Either way, it's like a plumbers association giving awards to painters, it just doesn't make sense.

That said, and I really enjoyed saying that, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest won the best movie award while Johnny Depp won for best performance. Per Variety:
Other big winners during the live broadcast from the Gibson Amphitheater included Mike Meyers, who won the MTV Generation Award, and Sacha Baron Cohen, who collected two trophies. Cohen earned the comedic performance prize for his starring turn in "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan."

"Unfortunately, Borat can't be here tonight," he joked. "He's been feeling the pressures of fame and had to check himself into rehab."

I'm a little concerned about this..
The 16-year-old awards show unveiled two new categories Sunday: best movie spoof and best summer movie you haven't seen yet. Andy Signore, a filmmaker from Pennsylvania, won for "United 300," a hybrid spoof of "300" and "United 93."

Someone spoofed a 9/11 film? What the fuck? Some people are so pathetically desperate for attention that it just defies your imagination.

Here's the full list that I stole from Variety (facts can't be copyrighted, so kiss my ass.)

Best Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Villian: Jack Nicholson in "The Departed"
Performance: Johnny Depp in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"
Breakthrough Performance: Jaden Smith in "The Pursuit of Happyness"
Comedic Performance: Sacha Baron Cohen in "Borat"
Kiss: Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen in "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby"
Fight: Gerard Butler vs. "The Uber Immortal" in "300"
Summer Movie You Haven't Seen Yet: "Transformers" (Ed.: Over Potter 5? That's ballsy.)
Movie Spoof: "United 300"
MTVu Best Filmmaker on Campus: Josh Greenbaum
MTV Generation Award: Mike Myers
