Battlestar Galactica is Ending

Pieces to the mystery of what will happen to the character of Starbuck in Sci Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica have fallen into place over the past 24 hours, and the news isn't good all-around.

NBC has picked up the pilot for a new version of The Bionic Woman, and Katee Sackhoff is going to play a starring role. That pretty much rules out her ever coming back to BSG, contractually speaking, which answers the first question. She may pop up from time-to-time as a guest star, however, and if season 4 is already in production, she may be in those episodes that have already been shot.

As for coming back as a regular cast member, that's just not gonna happen.

Another question that has been laying low in the weeds is how long can BSG last with disappointing ratings and a sudden stale feeling that they haven't been able to shake? That too, has been answered, at the Saturn Awards by star Edward James Olmos.

iF MAGAZINE: What's coming up for season four?

EDWARD JAMES OLMOS: It's fantastic. I think they're going to discover some very important issues about what the fan base really, really wants to see and what's to understand about this show. We're heading into the final season. This is the final season as we speak.

Well, we are pretty certain that there's a spinoff coming called Caprica that will be a prequel to BSG. And that, I think, will probably be the better series just because there will be so much open space to do new things, free of the constraints of the first series.

There's also supposedly a two-hour TV movie coming. Says Olmos, "My involvement is minimal; it's more of a situation about what happened to the Pegasus prior to getting to us. It's a very powerful piece of work."

The interview is short, but feel free to read the rest at iFMagazine.
