American Idol Winner: Jordan Sparks

The country has voted after 74,000,000 votes and Fox's biggest show has wrapped up this seasons contest to find the next American Idol. So who won? Well I imagine most people know by now since they watched the broadcast, but I'll give you a hint..wait, I already put it in the title of this post.

Damn.

Jordin Sparks is this years American Idol, confirming the outcome most people thought seemed most likely. Polls had her winning over Lewis by a pretty hefty margin which makes this one a bit of a snoozer.

So here's my deal, I don't like this show and tonight is the first time I've ever seen it, and I'm sitting here watching Gwen Stefani singing right after Lewis and Sparks did a duet together, and I can't help but be overwhelmed how much talented she is than than they were.

It's not even close, and I wonder if this is how it is every year. Are the contestants really second tier compared to the real stars? Maybe I'm just coming in on this show too late and it really is already past its prime.

Anyway, I didn't think either Lewis or Sparks were all that great during this show. They got showed up by both Stefani and Kelly Clarkson, and as is usual with any award show, it was too long and filled with stuff that nobody really does well: award show crap. The only highlight were the professional performances, at least two of which I'd like to have copies of.

I know everyone has been focusing on the contest, the sideshow circus of Sanjaya, and who the big idol is tonight, but I can't help but remember what an incredible asshole Simon Cowell was on early this year, so much so that it was obvious the network told him to tone it down.

I also think he was probably incensed that after that happened, when a contestant became a bigger freak than he did. Too bad it didn't play out until the end, having Cowell honor his promise to quit had Sanjaya won, would have made for much better drama in the finale than these weird skits featuring early round failures.

Anyway, congratulations to Jordan. Seems like most people got what they wanted as she has taken the "title", with little to no real excitement of question of who would win. That's just tough though, I'm not happy when this show makes me wait to see House either.

Well, at least Blake rapping was amusing. I hope you all enjoyed this years show.

Anybody think Blake got screwed, or that Jordan is just a hack? Is there an epidemic of large black women on Idol, or is it just me?

I'd pay good money to see Simon get off his ass and try singing in front of some of the first-tier contestants he dissed so bad.

First, you can't compare untrained talent with seasoned talent...that's like taking a kid who earned his green belt in some Alabama dojo and pitting him against a seasoned Ninja Fighter. Take Kelly Clarkson, She was good when she won American Idol..what 6 years ago?? But compare her performances on AI then to her performances now..shes seasoned, she's trained, she's found her personality. Give Jordan time..she has an amazing voice and vocal ability but she needs some time under belt.
Second, the only other black woman to win was Fantasia and she was a skinny, posing hack job if there ever was one. Statistically the winners of American Idol are two thin white girls to one less then skinny black girl so an epdidemic I don't think so!! And Furthermore, to call Jordan Sparks large is outrageous...large compared to who?? Ryan sechrest who is less then a man anyway?? or a crack attick supermodel who still gets airbrushed? Yea, maybe...compared to the American population, jordan sparks has a hell of a figure and sizewise is more comparable to marylin monroe. Statements like that ruin our children's self perceptions and create true epidemics of anorexic 14 yo's who think they have to look like barbie. So thanks a lot. But I will chip in on the donation to see simon try to sing!!!

Forget Bitch writing a lame column that did nothing but put down people who by all accounts have made it further in life than Bitch has. I'll pitch in to have the person who wrote the second commment take over Bitch's job. As for the first comment, take the second one, print it, and hang in on your wall where you can look at it everyday!

hey bitch,
no offense but just curious as to your musical training and background. why, to compare a digitally enhanced artist like gwen stefanni who sucks amazingly live to people who are singing live with ten times the talent and no digital enhancements is rediculous. i am an accomplished musician of 30 years and i feel you should probably stick to topics that you are actually qualified to talk about. and if you played the clarinet for six years in school, that still pretty much disqualifies you from judging anyones musical talent.

no offense

First of all, Jordan Sparks is AMAZING!!! She has the vocals and the talent which completely beats any bit of talent that Blake Lewis has!I can give Blake the credit to beatbox, but the contest is about who has the best vocal talent, not beatboxing skills. Blake's vocals are weak compared to Jordan's. That's not to say Jordan had the best vocals from the top 12 either. Lakisha and Melinda were far better, and it was a shame both got voted off. (What happened there, people?) But to claim that "there an epidemic of large black women on Idol" is completely ridiculous!!! Those black women on stage are beautiful people, inside and out. You don't have to be anorexic looking to look good. In fact, most women do look better with meat on their bodies! So I applaud Lakisha, Melinda, and Jordan for not following the crowd and loving themselves for who they are!!!!!!

BEAT THAT!!!!

Jordan Sparks is a wonderful vocalist and her inner beautiful is flawless. There is no epidemic just good talent! Jordan is not only black but she is white too. In order to label her just a large over weight black singer is crazy and shows true ignorance. I am black and I would identify with her even if she was 100 percent white, Asian, or Black!
AMERICA before we can have a mutual American Idol we need to get rid of American Ignorance!

Whatever color, size or age.... I thought Jordan Sparks was simply FANTASTIC and deserved to win the first time I saw her perform ! I wish her well with much success and the same to those with talent that got voted off. As for Blake, making "Funny Noises" is something that can be accomplished with mechanicals and computers..... No further comment. HATS OFF TO JORDAN SPARKS !!!

You cannot build one person up by tearing down another. People who do this need some introspection. Also, you don't have to be an expert at something to recognize talent or the lack thereof in someone else, but it does help to get beneath the surface and recognize true quality.
Regardless of the more seasoned vocals of the likes of Melinda or how ridiculous the voting seemed from Sanjaya on, I applaud any one who comes out on top of an endeavor. Jordin started out with a mission and she hung on and accomplished it. That is what I applaud. From the "worst" to the "best", who doesn't want to win??? If it had been Sanjaya, I would have applauded him as well.
Some of you just need to get a life. Peace.
