Boston Councilor Dumb as a Doornail

The AP is carrying a story that says a city councilor in Boston wants to have a Citgo sign removed from its place near Fenway park in a show of political grandstanding. The quote is simply hysterical in its ignorance.
Citgo is a subsidiary of Venezuela’s state oil company, and Councilor Jerry McDermott wants to replace the sign, which is visible from Fenway Park, with an American flag.

“Given the hatred of the United States displayed by dictator Hugo Chavez, it would be more fitting to see an American flag when you drive through Kenmore Square,” McDermott told The Boston Herald.
Jerry, you ignorant slut. The first thing I'd like to point out is that Bush says terrorists hate freedom and the freedom of speech and expression. Your assault on the freedom of speech kind of makes you look like a terrorist, doesn't it? No, of course you aren't actually a terrorist, because terrorists don't actually hate freedom, but it still sounds good and if it sounds good, it must be true, right?

Also, if you take down that sign, all you are going to do is hurt Boston. That gas station employs citizens of Boston, and pays taxes that pay your salary. By screwing around with their advertising, you're going to cost Boston jobs and tax money. Are you stupid? I think so.

The second thing is the most pathetic and amusing thing of all. McDermott labels Chavez a dictator when in fact Venezuela is a democracy, and has been for nearly 50 years. Chavez gained his first and second terms exactly the same way President Bush did, the people voted for him.

Well wait, I guess he didn't do it exactly the same way, since Hugo Chavez didn't steal his elections with fraud in Ohio and Florida.

I suggest that the people of Boston take better care on who they elect to the city council in the future.
