Bush and Congress Screw Over the IRS, and Us Too

President Bush and the Republican led Congress are working harder than ever before to screw over the American people while increasing the budget deficit at the same time. Word has come via the NY Times that the Internal Revenue Service will begin using outside debt collectors on unpaid taxes in a move that will cost the government more money than it would have cost to simply hire more I.R.S. employees, while recovering 8 times less than they would by themselves. I.R.S. officials acknowledge that this will be much more expensive than doing it internally, they say that Congress has forced their hand by refusing to let them hire more revenue officers, who could pull in a lot of easy-to-collect money.

The private debt collection program is expected to bring in $1.4 billion over 10 years, with the collection agencies keeping about $330 million of that, or 22 to 24 cents on the dollar.

By hiring more revenue officers, the I.R.S. could collect more than $9 billion each year and spend only $296 million — or about three cents on the dollar — to do so, Charles O. Rossotti, the computer systems entrepreneur who was commissioner from 1997 to 2002, told Congress four years ago.

$1 billion over ten years with private collectors, or $87 billion over ten years simply by properly staffing the I.R.S. Wow, that's a hard choice to make, isn't it? It sure is nice to see King Bush give away $330 million per year to private companies for doing virtually nothing for the government when the government under his reign already owes itself over $400 billion per year from spending money it doesn't actually have.

When are people going to understand that Republicans can't do math? They couldn't do math in 1994 when we let them take over the House, and they still can't do math now. Hell, even Reagan couldn't do math:

"President Reagan's budget director, David Stockman, had acknowledged that his administration had intentionally run huge deficits to create a crisis that would "starve" the domestic budget. They succeeded partially, underfunding but not eliminating investments in our common future. Now the Gingrich Republicans were trying to use a balanced budget with unreasonable revenue and spending assumptions to finish the job. I was determined to stop them; the future direction of our nation hung in the balance."

Republicans are not trustworthy people. Not a decade ago, and not right now. They lie to get us into unending wars, and they constantly violate the constituion. They bankrupt our nation every chance they get, then lie some more about how they want to solve the very problem of their own creation. Clinton knew what he was doing, and our current corps of Republican morons don't have the first clue. Could it be because something like two-thirds of the people in the Senate are millionaires, and don't ever have to worry about spending money?

Kick the bums out this fall, and restore our government to sanity.
