Mark Spoor owes Delana Harvick An Apology

NASCAR.com's Monday column, We Wonder, is written by Mark Spoor, and he wrote one of the most bone headed things I have read in quite a while.

"Unlike a lot of folks, I don't get all bent out of shape when I see Mrs. Harvick wearing a firesuit on pit road. She does help the team on raceday by logging lap times, keeping track of who pits and what they do and other race-day tasks. Therefore, if wearing a firesuit is her way of showing support for her husband and his team, so be it. I actually think that's commendable and kind of cool."

Excuse me? Wearing a protective fire resistant suit is showing support for the team? Mark, there are only two possible reasons you would say something like this: A. You actually have a problem with Delana being on pit road, which seems likely given that you tried to make up every excuse you could think of for it being "okay" with you. B. You're stupid.

Delana Harvick wears a firesuit in the pits for the exact same reason that everyone else does, so she won't burn to death if a fire breaks out, which is like, not totally out of the question given that there are half a dozen gas cans sitting nearby. Fires break out routinely on pit road when gas splashes out of the car during the pit stop, and the sparks happily fly when old lug nuts get caught under the spinning tires when the car leaves its stall. I shouldn't have to explain this to you, of all people. Anyone that doesn't wear a firesuit on pit road is stupid. Disagree? How about you ask Dale Earnhardt Jr. whether or not he thinks it's kosher for everyone in or near the pits to wear firesuits.

As for the hat, that was just inane, but I'll strike a deal with you anyway. When NASCAR stops with the religious ceremonies they hold before every race, which I find personally and ethically offensive, I'll take my hat off during the national anthem.

Moron. She sits on the pit box. Whens that last time you saw a fire on pit road jump over the wall and 9 feet into the air onto the pit box? And theres nothing wrong with the prerace prayer. If you don't like it, don't watch it. You're being too politically correct. You can't stop people from expressing what they believe because it offends you. I hate liberals but they wouldn't ban their speeches from tv because their beliefs offend me.

"Moron. She sits on the pit box. Whens that last time you saw a fire on pit road jump over the wall and 9 feet into the air onto the pit box?"

I considered simply deleting this for being immensely disrespectful, but instead I'll settle for taking you to school.

Think really hard, and I know it hurts when you try, but for the sake of the argument, try to kill the very few brain cells you have left by considering this bit of trivia.

Where do they store the fuel for the car?

Got it yet?

That's right, in the pit box. Next time when you feel like spouting off like a child, I suggest you take your attitude someplace else. I won't tolerate this kind of disrespect here and if you can't grow up, you certainly aren't welcome here.

Beyond that, the least you could do is take some time to learn about this stuff before you go spouting off like a "moron."

Yeah the gas cans are stored behind the wall but have you ever seen one get started behind the wall? I've seen pretty much every race in 4 years and I haven't. The only place I've ever seen a fire started is over the wall in the pit stall. The fuel isn't stored in the pit box, its stored behind the wall, she sits on the pit box, you know, where they keep the tools? that big thing with the chairs and computers on top?? Huh? Have you ever seen a fire up there? Maybe my frank comments seem childish because I'm in 9th grade. I'm not spouting off like a moron, I happen to know quite a lot about NASCAR.

Look at the picture at the top of the blog. See it? The fire is over the wall. Thats where the fires are. Pretty much always. Do you know where the pit box is? Behind the wall. And where are the fires? Over the wall. The pit box? Behind the wall. Understand yet? There are no fires behind the wall. Do you remember where the pit box is?
... Exactly.
